Devon Golem, PhD, RD, LDN
The Nuanced Nutritionist
Devon is a registered dietitian, PhD researcher, and media nutrition expert who bridges the gap between rigorous science and real-world application. As a working midlife mom of a young child, she understands firsthand the challenges of prioritizing health and happiness while managing a household and hectic schedule.
"Sometimes, understanding the small nuances of our health is all we need to greatly improve how we feel and live."
With over 25 years of experience spanning clinical practice, academic research, continuing education, and media communication, Devon has built a career translating complex nutrition science into actionable guidance for diverse audiences—from national media outlets to healthcare professionals to individual clients.
Media Expertise & Brand Partnerships
Devon's work has been featured in Real Simple, Woman's World, Food Institute, Taste of Home, The Takeout, and Backyard Garden Lover, where she provides evidence-based nutrition expertise that resonates with health-conscious consumers. Her unique combination of PhD-level research credentials and clinical experience positions her as a trusted voice for brands seeking authentic, science-backed nutrition messaging.
As the founder of the Institute of Continuing Education for Nutrition Professionals and owner of Consulting for Excellence in Education of Dietetics, Devon maintains deep connections within the nutrition profession. This extensive network allows her to influence both the healthcare professionals who recommend products and the consumers who purchase them—a rare dual-audience reach that creates meaningful brand impact.
Through media appearances, content creation, recipe development, strategic consulting, and speaking engagements, Devon helps food and health brands communicate credibly across multiple platforms while staying grounded in scientific rigor.
Clinical Practice & Individual Counseling
Devon also provides personalized nutrition counseling for select clients, an aspect of her work that keeps her connected to the real-world challenges people face when implementing nutrition advice. She pulls strategies from Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Informed Care, and other evidence-based counseling models to provide truly individualized support.
This clinical work informs her media expertise, ensuring that her public-facing nutrition guidance reflects current practice and resonates with the everyday realities of managing health in a busy life.
"True progress isn't about rigid rules; it's about being present and meeting people where they are with dietary habits that actually fit their lives."
Education & Professional Background
Devon earned a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutritional Sciences from California State University, Fresno and completed a CADE-accredited Dietetic Internship at the Porterville Developmental Center. After working as a clinical dietitian, she returned to school and earned a PhD in Nutritional Sciences with an emphasis in Exercise Science from Rutgers University in New Jersey.
Throughout her career, Devon has served as a clinician, educator, researcher, consultant, and media expert. Her specialization in women's health, cardiovascular disease, and body composition—combined with her research background and media credibility—allows her to communicate nutrition science with both accuracy and accessibility.
Whether working with brands, appearing in national media, educating healthcare professionals, or counseling individual clients, Devon brings the same commitment to evidence-based, nuanced nutrition guidance that honors the complexity of both science and human behavior.
